Have you ever caught yourself saying, “When I have more experience, then I’ll go for it. When I have more time, then I’ll finally focus on me. When the right opportunity comes along, then I’ll finally step up.”
It sounds reasonable. It feels safe. But it also keeps you waiting.
The truth is, life doesn’t change when you finally have enough. It changes the moment you decide to be.
You know the feeling of showing up prepared, capable, more than qualified and still being underestimated. You’ve had your ideas overlooked, your voice echoed by someone else to get credit, your contributions minimized. And even though you rise above it, the effort takes a toll.
But here’s what no one tells you: your value isn’t up for debate. It’s not tied to your title, your role, or whether someone else acknowledges it. Those things shift. They expire. They reorganize.
What doesn’t fade is who you are when you stand fully in your presence. The confidence that comes from knowing your voice matters. The clarity of holding a vision that keeps you steady when everything else feels uncertain. The choice to close the gap between the woman you are now and the one you know you’re meant to be.
So instead of asking, “When I have…?” start asking, “Who do I need to be right now?”
Walk into that meeting, send that email, start that conversation from that place. Not later. Not when you’ve ticked every box. Now.
Because your story isn’t defined by the opportunities you didn’t get or the moments where someone else took the credit. Your story is defined by the vision you choose to live by and the courage to keep writing it.
And no matter what challenges you’ve faced or how much time you think has passed, it’s never too late to write your own story.
If you’re ready to stop waiting for the perfect timing and start becoming the leader you know you’re meant to be, here are three simple practices to get you started:
Before your next meeting, interview, or even a family conversation, pause and ask: “If I were already the woman I want to become, how would I show up right now?” Then choose one action that aligns with that answer.
Practice saying one idea out loud without cushioning it, apologizing, or running circles around it. Let your presence carry the weight instead of your over-preparation. This builds confidence and reinforces that your voice is enough as it is.
Write a short vision statement about who you’re becoming and place it somewhere visible. On your bathroom mirror. On your phone lock screen. In your notebook. Seeing it daily keeps you aligned with being, not just having.
These small, intentional shifts build momentum. Over time, they change not only how others see you but how you see yourself.
