What Are You Looking At—The Storm or the Promise?

What Are You Looking At—The Storm or the Promise?

This past weekend, I found myself back in one of my favorite places ‘the beach’ with my family. For us, the beach is more than a getaway; it’s a sacred space where our souls exhale. It’s where my cup gets refilled, my mind is free to rest, and I get to do what matters most: spend time with God, with myself, and with the ones I love.

We were so excited to arrive, already imagining the peace, fun and joy that awaited us. But as we pulled up, the sky looked anything but promising. Heavy, dark clouds hovered overhead, and people were packing up in a hurry. One person even stopped to warn us: “You’re going to get stormed on, you better leave!”

But I looked beyond the storm clouds, out to the horizon, and it was completely clear, beautiful, open, and calm. I glanced back up at the sky, smiled, and softly spoke: “Please go on your merry way. My family and I are going to have a beautiful day at the beach.” And we stayed.

That moment has lingered with me, and it reminded me of so many of my clients who find themselves standing on the edge of something new, something promising but are met with fears, doubts, and the voices of others telling them to retreat. They come excited to start a new chapter in their lives or careers, only to be met with “dark clouds” old mindsets, past disappointments, or people who don’t see the vision.

What Are You Looking At—The Storm or the Promise?

Here’s the truth: if we had focused on the storm behind us instead of the clear skies ahead, we would’ve missed a magical day. We would’ve missed laughter, stillness, connection, and rest. That’s what happens when we follow the crowd, when we listen to the wrong voices, or when we give more weight to the fear than to the promise.

So many women I work with are still looking back at the things that didn’t work out, the opportunities missed, the people who let them down. But flourishing begins when you choose to look forward. When you trust the vision God gave you more than the voices
around you. When you believe in the clear horizon, even if the sky above you feels heavy.

That day, my family and I had the entire beach to ourselves. We laughed, we played, we connected and we experienced everything we desired, not because the weather was perfect, but because our perspective was. We didn’t let fear determine our experience.

Let this be your reminder: when you keep your eyes on your destiny, and when you surround yourself with voices that call out your purpose, not your problems, you won’t miss your moment. The clouds may still come, but they won’t dictate your day. You were created to flourish, to stand, to believe, and to walk in the fullness of what’s ahead of you.

If this message speaks to your spirit, then maybe it’s your time. Your time to stop looking back, to silence the noise, and to surround yourself with a circle that helps you rise. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Let's have a conversation. Your future is too beautiful to miss.
