How Do You Respond in Times of Change?

We are living in the Age of AI, just like our predecessors experienced the Age of the Internet. The impact is massive and, for many, overwhelming. But history reminds us, we adapt. That’s what humans do.

Lately, I’ve heard a growing concern about not just AI, but the rapid change happening all around us; economically, socially, spiritually. And the tone I often hear in people’s voices? Panic. Fear. Anxiety.

People ask me all the time:

“Candis, aren’t you concerned? Aren’t you worried?”

The truth is, I’m not. I don’t spend my energy focusing on what’s changing around me. I choose not to watch the news because I see it as a distraction. What we feed our spirits with – grows. That doesn’t mean I’m oblivious; I’m just intentional. I decide when and how I ingest information, especially in this season of fast-paced transformation.

This brings us to the question:
How do you respond in times of change?

Because the only constant in life— is change.

No day is the same. No moment repeats itself. Change, big or small, is inevitable. And while we can’t control it, we can control how we respond.

Where Is Your Trust and Faith?

Many of us put our trust in worldly things; systems, structures, people, or positions that are ever-changing. But when change shakes our foundations, where do we stand?

Think of a flower. You may see it grow each day, but its transformation often goes unnoticed—until one morning, it dies. That moment triggers a response. Life is similar: we’re constantly experiencing shifts, but it’s the magnitude of a change that determines how we react.

Sometimes, change is positive, filled with excitement and promise. Other times, it feels devastating, disruptive, even destructive.

And when that happens, fear often creeps in.

Fear isolates you. It makes you feel stuck, abandoned, overwhelmed. You might struggle to think clearly, slip into unhealthy patterns, or feel paralyzed in your decision-making.

Distress or Eustress: You Get to Choose

But what if we looked at change differently?

There’s a lesser-known response to difficult situations: it’s called eustress—a positive form of stress. It challenges us, pushes us out of our comfort zones, and activates our faith.

When we lean into change with spiritual awareness, we allow God to use our gifts. We start to see opportunities in disruption. We become more motivated, creative, and purpose-driven.

That’s where empowerment lives.

God didn’t give us a spirit of fear or defeat. He is the God of the I AM—the God of possibility. He’s done it before. He’ll do it again.

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.”

— Habakkuk 3:19

Navigating Change with Grace and Grit

Change is non-negotiable but how we navigate life transitions is up to us. God has already placed the tools inside of us to move through it. Just like a deer climbs from soft valleys to rocky heights with steady footing, you too can move with confidence even when the terrain gets rough.

So I’ll leave you with this:

When change knocks on your door, how will you respond—
In DISTRESS or in EUSTRESS?
