Chasing After Success: A Journey of Transformation for Women in Leadership

Chasing After Success: A Journey of Transformation for Women in Leadership

As a high-achieving C-suite executive with over 25 years in the financial services industry, I often found myself caught in the relentless pursuit of success. Climbing the corporate ladder seemed to be my ultimate goal, but as I achieved each milestone, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. Despite the accolades and professional triumphs, I grappled with burnout, stress, and personal challenges that threatened my well-being.

My journey as a woman in leadership, combined with personal hardships—including overcoming childhood trauma, navigating an abusive marriage, and experiencing miscarriage and postpartum depression—led to a moment of profound realization. It became clear to me that true fulfillment lies not in the accolades or the titles we chase, but in aligning with our authentic purpose.

Journey of Transformation for Women in Leadership

A Biblical Example: King David

In my search for understanding, I often reflected on the story of King David from the Bible. David was a leader who experienced a remarkable rise from shepherd boy to king of Israel. Despite his successes, he faced immense challenges and personal struggles. His journey was marked by trials, including conflicts, moral failures, and the pain of loss.

What stands out about David’s story is not only his incredible achievements but also his deep connection to God. Throughout his life, David sought to align his actions with divine purpose, expressing his heart and struggles in the Psalms. He understood that success was not merely about kingship but about being in right relationship with God and serving his people faithfully

Aligning with Divine Purpose

My experiences have taught me valuable lessons about the nature of success. Like David, I realized that true success is not defined by promotions, bonuses, or accolades. Instead, it is about using our gifts and experiences to make a positive impact on others. It’s about pursuing a life that reflects our values and enables us to walk in a way that honors our creator.

Through my journey, I learned that overcoming burnout and self-doubt requires more than just hard work; it demands spiritual alignment. By connecting my professional aspirations with my faith, I discovered a renewed sense of clarity and direction. Each challenge I faced became an opportunity for growth, allowing me to embrace my calling to empower others—especially minority women in leadership

Success is a personal journey

Success is a personal journey, one that may take different paths for each of us. Yet, the pursuit of success should ultimately lead us to a place where we can fulfill our purpose, just as David did. He reminds us that it is crucial to seek what is truly important—our relationship with God and serving others.

As you navigate your own journey toward success, ask yourself: Are you chasing after achievements, or are you aligning your goals with a higher purpose? Take time for reflection, find your inner strength, and remember that transformation often begins when we step back and reconsider what success truly means.

In my coaching practice, I strive to create a space for women in leadership to explore these questions. As we embark on this journey, I will help you develop customized strategies and actionable affirmations that empower your leadership while staying grounded in your faith.
